DESCRIPTION:What dynamic to support European re-armament?In the context of the full scale war in Ukraine\, calling for reinforced European defence efficiency and industrial capacity\, and as new tools as EDIP enter into force\, deep-dive into the 2027-2034 MFF: policy behind the proposal from the Commission\, and expected main points of debate until full adoption. \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat are the next 10 years going to look like for European defence & space policies?Last Wednesday\, the EDN – European Defence Network had the opportunity to investigate this question through the European defence & space budget trajectory\, the 2028-2034 MFF\, with 2 members of DG DEFIS:➡️ María Fernández Molinero\, Head of Unit for Space Policy➡️ David Jelínek\, Policy Officer for Defence Industry\, on behalf of his Head of Unit Guillaume de La Brosse➡️ Moderated by Tom KörnerKey takeaways:▶️ 3 drivers:Simplicity: create a single\, unified spectrum of financial tools from existing frameworksFlexibility: leave room for adaptation\, given increasing number of crisesPredictability: to allow industry investment decisions▶️ Very different situations between space and defence:🛰️ Space budget largely depends on existing or planned projects (IRIS2\, GOVSATCOM\, Galileo\, Copernicus)\, with a plan to lever these assets for defence & security🪖 Defence budget will focus on maintaining the effects of existing tools (EDF\, ASAP\, EDIRPA\, EDIP\, …)\, while adding infrastructure (Connecting Europe) and Miitary logistics support mechanisms.▶️ Focusing on Made in Europe remains an objective\, with details to be adjusted (made\, based\, controlled\, …)
